The Data Layer is where you store information. In WorkXpress your information is organized as Types of Items. Items are the People, Places and Things you want to track. Relationships describe how your Items are connected. Finally, we use Fields to store data about your Items and Relationships.

The Presentation Layer is your user interface. In WorkXpress, a user interface is built by nesting Layouts and Fields in any combination you prefer. For more complex interface behavior, you will need to manipulate a concept called context (see 401 below). For specific information about each Layout and Field Type, please see 102 a. Layout Types and 102 b. Field Types.

The Logic Layer consists of the automation you want the computer to perform for you. In WorkXpress, you use Actions to create automation. Actions are very deeply connected to both the Data Layer and the Presentation Layer, so please study 101 and 102 first. |

The Cloud Management Portal is used to manage your software, your platform and your infrastructure. You will setup servers, start development projects, release versions to production, manage your data backups, perform disaster recovery, and review your billing using the Portal. VAR's and ISV's will even manage their customer accounts, income, and expenses using the Portal.

202: Application Lifecycle Management in the Cloud Portal |
The Cloud Management Portal makes it easy to manage your Development, Testing, and Production applications by providing a full suite of lifecycle management and version control tools.

| |
203: Systems Administration in the Cloud Portal |
The Cloud Management Portal makes it easy to perform common systems adminstration tasks including provisioning new servers, installing applications, updating systems, adding server capacity, recovering from disasters, and more!

301: Tools - Block Creator |
The Block Creator allows you to create new WorkXpress Building Blocks. Here, we'll discuss the location of and settings available for this tool.
| |
| |
The Block Editor exposes all of the settings for an individual Building Block so that you may view or edit them. We'll discover where to find this tool and explain its settings in this class.

The Query Builder is a visual tool that enables you to create and manage complex queries to retrieve information from your data layer. We'll explain how to access and use this tool here.
| |
| |
The Expression Builder is a visual tool that allows you to build elaborate mathematical and textual expressions that will manipulate the way information from your data layer is displayed in your application. This class will teach you how to find the Expression Builder and discuss its function.

The Action Manager allows you to create and manage Actions. We'll show you where to find this tool and explain its uses in this class. |

Context is what the interface (102) and logic (103) layers of
WorkXpress leverage to understand the data layer (101). A Building Block's context is the specifc item(s) or relationship(s) that Block is
about at that instant in time. Manipulating context allows you to build rich
interfaces and complex automations. |
